VOLUNTEER HELPERS AND ORGANISERS:
The main helpers and organizers are CRB checked and are regularly updated.
MINI BUS
The church Mini bus picks children who live around Orford and drops them back at home at the end of the evening. The drivers are careful drivers and the assistant (always a female helper) are also CRB checked and have been doing this for a while now. The assistant accompanies the children across roads on pick up and makes sure they have seen children enter their front doors and not just the garden when dropped back at home.
ACTIVITIES AND GAMES
This includes; Silly games (physical and creative), Board Games, Craft, Cookery, Drama, Team Games (which are generally, but not always, energetic!).
Videos: we tend to avoid this because children watch TV at home and Friday club offers opportunity to socialise, to be talked to, to be loved and to be actively occupied.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
We need consent forms filled and signed by the parents/Guardian. The form includes all dietary/health needs. If there is any outdoor activity during summer it is announced a week in advance so that children have the appropriate shoes and clothes.
We never leave the Church Centre premises for all the activities for Friday club.
A first aider is available in the building at all times
CONTRIBUTIONS
On sign in we do suggest a contribution of 50pence per child (this is used to purchase materials for cookery craft etc).
SNACKS
Biscuits and dilute to taste orange juice and water are the options provided on the evening. From time to time simple sweets/chocolate forms parts of the evening activity, all dietary needs are carefully considered in the choice made so that everyone can have some.
DISCIPLINE
All the ground rules are explained normally and are voiced again occasionally as reminders when children start to misbehave. This is usually adhered to, so much so that for all the helpers’ time of volunteering for Friday club nothing else has had to be said.
LIFE AFTER FRIDAY CLUB
Most of the children also come along to INTERS at the church centre after they outgrow Friday club.
